What is writing? What is a remix? Is there a connection between the two? What are my expectations for this course? What do I hope to gain from this course?

To write is to communicate your thoughts and ideas in a formation that can be read or studied, by using letters, spaces and punctuation. Writing is an instrument used for various reasons. The media and legal systems use writing to distribute information. Writing, excluding speech, connects people on a regular basis. A remix is a piece of literature that has been adjusted or improved from its original form by the process of combination and/or transformation. Essentially, one learns by studying and copying the original form. Then, by combining original ideas and adding your creativity to the piece of literature (whether it is a song, movie, technology, etc.) you create a remix. Writing is essentially a remix. Almost all pieces of writing can be analysed to find that it is a combination and transformation of previous writing pieces. New ideas that originate from writing are part of the remix process. Whilst editing your written piece you are contributing to the remix process, as you are bettering the original form. I expect to learn from a variety of genres, compose, and improve my critical thinking in class. I hope to gain knowledge from, but also enjoy the discussions of my peers and professor. My online skills will hopefully improve as well as I am not used to working and submitting assignments using the internet. I want to use the new resources given to me to the best of my ability. I would like to write, review and better my work in an effort to become a better literary and linguistic student.
