Blog Post 5

My Genealogy Project depicts the well-known, hit television series, “How I Met Your Mother”, to be a remix of the 90’s series, “Friends”. The different textual, visual, musical and lifestyle influences were described. Both series were branded as “comedic brilliance”, it only seems fitting to therefor target audiences who enjoy the comical aspects of a program.

My first idea is to remediate my essay for television and talk show viewers. I will compose the dialog between the “Late-Night Talk Show” host, Seth Meyers and the two main characters from each of my series- Josh Radnor (Ted Mosby from “How I Met Your Mother”) and David Schwimmer (Ross Geller from “Friends”).  They will discuss the influences from “Friends” used to create “How I Met Your Mother”. The characters will also give their take on the matter and whether they truly believe that the series “How I Met Your Mother” is a remix of “Friends”.

Secondly, cartoon and newspaper readers are targeted. I will create cartoon strips using images from the series to create a comedic dialog between the characters from “How I Met Your Mother” and “Friends”. The various similarities between the characters will be underlined.

Lastly, for personal reasons, I can direct my project at sportswomen and sportsmen as well as sports’ fans by creating a billboard add that would be broadcasted at a sport event in an athletics stadium. This add will be brief, depicting the main points of my argument, while using multiple images and humorous scenes to hold the audience’s attention.

  1. Helene, I think any of these ideas would work, but I have a few questions:

    1) If you do the talk show, would you actually film it and have people assume the roles of these characters? Further, would you want "Ted" and "Ross" to be in character, or would it be the actors speaking for themselves?

    2) The cartoon strip might be fine as well - you could even frame it as a webcomic as well, depending on what technology you use to create the strips.

    3) Why would sports fans be particularly interested in Friends and HIMYM? Would they be?
