“What do you see as the relationship between multimodality and genre?”
Multimodality is an inter-disciplinary approach that understands communication and representation to be more than about language. Genre is a category of artistic composition, as in music or literature, characterized by similarities in form, style, or subject matter. Between the two the relationship I see is that both have their own style, multimodal and genre want people to see things with a different approach not just language. Both subjects are relating to more than one branch of knowledge give people a ideology to think outside the box.

“What is Multimodality? How would you define Modes? What is the tension between Kress and Wysocki’s view of multimodality?
Multimodality is using multiple modes to express your opinion and get your ideas out through differents mediums such as news, videos, and other versions of media it gives the opportunity to see things a from a different perspective. I would define modes as being a different outlet to get things out through videos, books, documentaries. It's pretty a different way to communicate different ways to express yourself. The tension between Kress and Wysocki is that keeps believes in using one or more modes to get the point out and to express yourself a lot easier but Wysocki believes that it doesn't matter how many modes you use as long as you use it the right way and that it lines up with the Multimodality. Using different modes is a great way to catch the readers eye. The reader is probably tired of pen and paper and using modes is a way to change the readers mind on things. This gets the reader out of the boring stage and able to interact and see things differently.

Remediation Idea: Ryan McCormick
My Genealogy Essay was an analysis on how the entire Harry
Potter series is a remix of the Bible. For my remediation, I do not think a
movie or a poster would do the justice in portraying my points made in my essay
in a different medium. I think the best way to say the same points in a
different medium would be post cards written from Harry and Jesus. I am still
unsure whether Harry and Jesus would be writing to one another (of course in a
fantasy world) or if they would be writing to other people. Either way, a
collection of post cards from each of these characters discussing their life
story, their friends, their similarities, etc. I could ring together their post
cards to form a flipbook. It would really show the audience the connection
between these two works of literature and how they remix one another. The ideal
audience for this remediation would be adults (due to the complexity of Harry
Potter and the Bible) both younger and older as well as very big Harry Potter
fans.

Ideas for remediation
In my essay I argued the Disney cartoon Snow White and the Seven dwarfs and Once Upon a Time were remixes of the Little Snow-White Grimm tale. I think for the remediation project I want to portray the differences along with the similarities between the three through fashion. I want to create a "Grimm" look, a cartoon statement, and a modern day outfit of Snow White and display them in a fashion show. My main audience would clearly be 1. Girls and women as Snow White is a girl, 2. Disney fans and Once Upon a Time fans, and 3. Fashion bloggers. I think it could be a really cool way to incorporate Snow White, but also the audience I am appealing to because the idea behind it would be to "dress like your favorite Snow".

To remediate my genealogy
essay into a medium that would be more suitable and appealing to a
younger audience I would transform it into a BuzzFeed list. BuzzFeed lists
normally include short numbered headlines above a corresponding photo, followed
by a more detailed caption. This medium would allow me to show screen caps from
“The Lady Vanishes” and “Flightplan,” juxtaposed in order to compare and
contrast certain elements from the two films. Under the screen captures of the
films I could describe, in detail, how “Flightplan” copied and transformed this
element from “The Lady Vanishes.” For example, one headline could be, “The
Protagonists” with a still image of each films protagonist, followed by an
explanation of how “Flightplan” based this character off the main character of
“The Lady Vanishes.” BuzzFeed is popular among the younger, information-age
generation and would be much more appealing than an essay. Alternatively, I could turn my genealogy essay
into a video, using actual footage from both films to better express how
element were copied and transformed. A video, while also appealing to a younger
audience, would be the best medium to demonstrate to an audience that favors
stricter copyright laws that these laws can stifle creativity. This would allow
me to exemplify how “Flightplan” can take elements from “The Lady Vanishes” and
transform them in order to create a completely new film. Even with some
elements that have only been changed slightly from one film to another, a video
would be the best way to show how and why “Flightplan” transformed elements in
such a way that the film does not lack originality. This medium would have much
more of an impact on an audience that disagrees with the underlying notion of
my genealogy essay, which is that everything is a remix.
REMEDIATION IDEAS
For my Genealogy paper I chose to focus on the progression of the Cinderella story from the 1800's to the famous Walt Disney version. For this "Remediation" project I think I would like to do something interactive and engaging that will further explain my feelings on the 1950 Disney remake. If I create a song or music video that expresses the changes through time and why they occurred I think I will be able to convey my point to various audiences.
The 3 audiences I am interested in reaching are:
1. Young Adults (Who are Disney fans that may need to know the truth behind the film)
2. Older people who may know the stories that exceeded the Disney Cinderellas
3. Anyone who likes music.
I believe that a song or video with catchy lyrics that are enjoyable but direct will transpire positively to any of the 3 audiences mentioned above, and relay the message of my original paper clearly.

Remediated Dads
Idea One:
The targeted audience for this idea is preschool students. My plan was to recreate the TV dads as puppets as well as the TV show creators conversing with one another sharing ideas. I feel puppets would go well with preschoolers because they find them entertaining and bright colors would probably catch their eye.
Idea Two:
The second target group are the Bahamian people. Junkanoo is an annual cultural event that attracts many Bahamians to spectate and cheer on their favorite group. my strategy was to create a lineage of bumbling TV Dads in the parade; possibly in chronological order record it and possibly narrate over it as it happens.

Idea Three:
the third group of my remediation are people who enjoy adult television. my idea was to take different clips of pieces and edit over them with you voice.
Typical episode ofThe Simpsons
The stereotypical African-American dad.
Ideas
I wrote my essay on Scary
Movie 3, so it has a lot of audiences that I could target. The first is
people who enjoy watching scary movies. I could make a movie poster advertising
Scary Movie 3 and how it combines the
elements of other scary movies to turn it onto a comedy. Another audience that I
could target is teenagers. Scary Movie 3
is a movie targeted mostly towards teenagers and it incorporates humor that
younger people appreciate. I could turn my essay into a comic strip showing the
transformation from scary to funny. Finally, I could use my target audience as
comedy movie lovers. I could make a movie trailer showing the transformation
from horror to comedy in the movie.

“Brainstorm ideas for your remediation – Name three different audiences for which you might
remediate your Genealogy essay, and the appropriate medium for those audiences”
My genealogy project was on several adaptations of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice.
first audience- college students to hear how pride and prejudice has influenced literature
second audience- Jane Austen fans to consider which adaptation was the best
third audience- screenplay writers/authors to learn how to make better film adaptations/write novels
Pick a specific part of the book & show the clips in a video from the different remixes I talked about in my project (the scenes from the movies/slides of quotes from the books). Compare how they are similar/different to the original novel.
An idea for the actual project would be to have Jane Austen host a show where all the characters that represent Elizabeth in the later adaptations argue about why their adaptation is the best one.

In my geneology paper I talked about the evolution of Rock and Roll, and everything it has influenced. In my remediation project I would like to target audiences that know little about the history of Rock and Roll. Since Rock and Roll has shaped today's culture in so many ways, it is important to share this with others.
My first ideal audience is sports fans. I feel like sports fans would be an easy audience to expose this to because all sporting events have music played at some point in time such as during half time shows and in between innings and even before UFC fights. i feel like to would be easy to get a sportscenter page and replace the people, dialog, and words on the screen to Rock and Roll themes.
The second audience I would choose to remediate to would be fans of visual art. The way I would capture their attention would be through a picture collage. This collage would have pictures of the things I talked about in my geneology paper, but in a way that would capture the attention of this audience.
Finally the last audience I would target would be Middle school kids. The reason I would choose middle schoolers is because they are so caught up in new music that they don't even realize where that music originated. My idea is to make a breif video of Rock and Roll from 1950 to present and everything it has influenced. I would include music and cool facts to keep the audience interested

My Genealogy
Project depicts the well-known, hit television series, “How I Met Your Mother”,
to be a remix of the 90’s series, “Friends”. The different textual, visual,
musical and lifestyle influences were described. Both series were branded as “comedic
brilliance”, it only seems fitting to therefor target audiences who enjoy the comical
aspects of a program.
My first
idea is to remediate my essay for television and talk show viewers. I will
compose the dialog between the “Late-Night Talk Show” host, Seth Meyers and the
two main characters from each of my series- Josh Radnor (Ted Mosby from “How I
Met Your Mother”) and David Schwimmer (Ross Geller from “Friends”). They will discuss the influences from “Friends”
used to create “How I Met Your Mother”. The characters will also give their
take on the matter and whether they truly believe that the series “How I Met
Your Mother” is a remix of “Friends”.
Secondly,
cartoon and newspaper readers are targeted. I will create cartoon strips using
images from the series to create a comedic dialog between the characters from “How
I Met Your Mother” and “Friends”. The various similarities between the
characters will be underlined.
Lastly, for
personal reasons, I can direct my project at sportswomen and sportsmen as well
as sports’ fans by creating a billboard add that would be broadcasted at a
sport event in an athletics stadium. This add will be brief, depicting the main
points of my argument, while using multiple images and humorous scenes to hold
the audience’s attention.

In these excerpts of Richards’
journal he discusses the faults of the traditional Doctrine of Usage, making
the point that words alone “mean” nothing in their solidarity. Richard attacks
the doctrine as misinforming readers that words are merely to possess their
sense, bringing this meaning with them regardless of the surrounding words in a
sentence. He acknowledges that the Doctrine of Usage can be interpreted in
different ways that would make it suitable but expands on arguing against its
conventional explanation. By this common understanding, the doctrine undertakes
that the assumption that words all have fixed meanings, of which we will always
know before we read them. So that an author’s tasks is to build up the meaning
of a sentence with these preset building blocks, just as “a mosaic is put
together of discrete independent tesserae” (Richards 55). Richard addresses
that this understanding of the doctrine quickly brings about problems,
especially when leaving out crucial elements. In actuality when we speak or
write, we employ symbolism to convey a “meaning” to a word. This symbolism is
caused by not only the reference we are making but also the purpose for which
we are making it, the proposed effect of the symbol on others, and the author’s
attitude. His example, “we say that the gardener mows the lawn when we know
that it is the lawn-mower which actually does the cutting,” will encounter no
difficulties when the whole matter is considered in more detail (Richards 9). A
word independently has no meaning, no fixed single usage, or even a limited
number of correct uses. Richard’s argument relates to our discussions of remix
so far because just as words are given meaning by their use, other elements of
different mediums are given meaning by their surrounding details and
references. It is the creator, and the symbolism they employ that gives
something it’s meaning and makes it original.

In reading Johnson-Eilola and
Selber’s journal they bring up the recent phenomenon of a remix culture and
what that could mean in relation to the strict plagiarism and copyright
policies of our society. The journal discusses assemblage as being apart of the
remix culture and how, through a change of notion on plagiarism, could actually
be applied to an improved academic curriculum and setting. Instead of academic
institutions holding students originality so highly in writing, the journal
suggest a shift to application and how students can remix other texts to solve
problems or enact social action. How it is conceived today, the journal
acknowledges a hierarchy in academics that holds students original writing
above all, especially borrowed work. This hierarchy is exemplified by not only
the strict plagiarism policies seen around the country, but also the citation
practices that act as an indicator for teachers to what is borrowed and what is
original. However, the journal brings up how these citation practices, that
value borrowed text less than students original work, are problematic and often
are what lead students hide their borrowings. If academic institutions took on
the reconception of downplaying the value of originality and instead focused
more on problem solving, assemblage could be a very beneficial part of
students’ composition skills. By teaching and encouraging students to build on
existing texts in order to bring about resolutions, as opposed to hiding the
unavoidable interactions with the work of others behind concepts of citations, an
entirely new skill can be put into use.
